The old house we are visiting today is the main house of the former Doi family residence, located within Hitachi Seaside Park in Hitachinaka City, Ibaraki Prefecture. It consists of two buildings: the main house, built in the early Edo period, and the retirement home, built in the middle of the Edo period. The main house is said to be one of the oldest houses in eastern Japan. It is a hipped-roofed house with a thatched roof in a beautiful style called stepped roofing.
