Estwing Hammer Leather Stack and Brass Handle Makeover. Old Hammer Perfect Restoration. Lathe KSKS
In this video I remade the handle on an old Estwing hammer that I have had for years. I think it counts as a restoration. I cut off the rubber handle and used a blowtorch to get the last bits off before using a wire wheel. I then sanded the hammer using increasingly finer grits until it was almost polished . I then used an antiquing fluid to chemically black the steel and preserved the oxide layer with oil. Milling the brass pieces took forever to sort out because I had to adapt my lathe into a milling machine using parts from an old cheap mill table. The leather stacking was easy enough, it just took a long time to cut the pieces and became a little tedious. The rest was really easy, just a little bandsaw work and belt sanding. In total it took me 3 days to turn a hammer that works into a hammer that works. Kind of pointless but the end result is a very nice looking custom Estwing. Thanks for watching.
