The progression of the entire piece is similar to Chinese poetry, focusing on the pictorial aspect. The whole piece does not play the four lines of this poem in order, but rather expresses the inner verses described in "The Night of Maple Hill" in a musical language. First, it employs Kunqu melody while integrating harmonics, immersing the listener in a picturesque water town ambiance; then it naturally transitions to detailed depictions, such as the bubbling water under Maple Bridge, the gentle breeze stirring the maple leaves, and the sparse fishing lights; afterward, it shifts to portray the characters' inner emotions.
