From Botanical Gel Prints to Finished Collage

During the summer, I printed a large stash of botanical gel prints on tissue. Now that winter is here and my garden is covered in snow, I’m bringing those summer botanicals back into my artwork. In this video, I share the full process of creating a finished mixed media collage. You’ll see how I choose botanical prints based on shape, colour, and composition, how I narrow down my options, and how those early decisions guide the collage as it comes together. I also show how I use thin layers of paint to accentuate the shapes that first caught my eye. This video is about pulling it all together—making thoughtful choices and letting the materials guide the work from start to finish. ________________________________________ ✉️ Stay Connected If you enjoy this kind of process-focused approach, I also share ideas, tips, and behind-the-scenes thoughts in my newsletter. 👉 Subscribe here: https://www.kitbell.ca/newsletter.html ________________________________________ 🌿 Botanical Printing on Tissue If you’d like to see how I create these botanical prints, you may enjoy these videos: •    • Tissue Prints: Why They Are a Game Changer   •    • Turning Weeds into Art: Gel Plate Printing...   •    • Adding to the Stash: 22 New Botanical Prin...   ________________________________________ ✂️ Collage & Mixed Media Videos Here are two other ways that I use to "start" collages: • With only paint:    • Every Twist and Turn in My Art Process   • With paint and accent papers:    • Building a Collage With Your Gel Prints   ________________________________________ 🎨 Supplies Used • Botanical gel prints on tissue • Acrylic paint- Titanium White, Dioxazine Purple, Ultramarine Blue, Transparent Red Iron Oxide and Carbon Black • Canvas • Matte medium (adhesive) • Brushes and basic studio tools ________________________________________ ⏱ Chapters 00:00 Introduction 00:35 Where to Start? 01:33 Looking Through the Short List 03:20 Choosing the Canvas Size 04:33 Adhering the Tissue Print 08:32 Adjusting with Paint 12:32 Adding Another Colour 19:50 Adding the Second Tissue 25:23 Pulling It All Together 39:13 Finished Piece
