I have been wanting to attempt this for a long time... replicating a frame from my favourite animated film, Katsuhiro Otomo's 1988 classic, AKIRA! I chose this frame in particular because I've always been in love with the colour palette and how it adds to the dream-like and uncanny vibe of the scene. The art coordinator, Kimi Yamana oversaw all of the colour mixing and matching. She used 327 colours, 50 of which were specifically mixed for nighttime and neon-lit scenes.... and that makes me wonder if she chose one of those custom colours for the lips and nails which are the most perfect shade of hot pinkish, red. I didn't use Holbein Gouache's colour, "Opera" but I really wish I had! I plan on doing more frames, or masterworks, from AKIRA and am especially interested in trying my hand at inking and painting an animation cel. Let me know if you have any tips for that, or if there is a particular frame you'd like me to attempt. Supplies Used: *Holbein acrylic gouache: black, red, magenta, yellow, cyan, ultramarine *Liquitex Soft Body Acrylic: titanium white *Number 4 round and 1/2" angled, flathead watercolour brushes *Illustration board *Masking tape (use washi or "froggy" tape instead to avoid rips) *Mechanical pencil #akira #masterwork #acrylicgouache #arttutorial #gouachetutorial #paintingakira #replicatingakira
