At the Sasebo Training Unit of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), which trains JMSDF personnel, a "fire prevention training" exercise was conducted with the aim of acquiring specialized firefighting skills in the event of a fire. A raging fire, emitting intense heat, was confronted by personnel clad in fire-resistant suits. The purpose of the fire prevention training is for new recruits who joined the Sasebo Training Unit in April of this year to respond to a fire themselves. To acquire firefighting skills, "first and foremost, eliminate the fear of fire." Since JMSDF vessels sometimes carry ammunition, a fire could lead to significant damage, making the ability to extinguish a fire as quickly as possible a crucial skill. Instructor Toru Ogasawara of the Sasebo Training Unit stated, "First and foremost, eliminate the fear of fire. Because there are narrow compartments (onboard), our main objective is to ensure that they can perform the correct movements according to established commands."
