There is still plenty left to pick up, from metal fencing to old plastic tarps that fall apart as soon as you touch them, so Philippe and Odin head into the forest with a small trailer to collect it all. With that done, Philippe takes our trusty mower out into the fields to mulch down the brambles. After three years here, we think we may finally have found the best way to keep them under control: mowing. In between, Odin and I plant flower seeds and we make sure to take a few breaks to enjoy the spring sunshine. The next day, Philippe brings the excavator out of the forest, where he had been clearing a path and puts it back to work on landscaping. We still have piles of sifted soil left over from when he was building up the driveway and one of our goals is to gradually get rid of the piles scattered around the property so it feels less and less like a building site. This time he uses the soil to widen the driveway and shape it more permanently before moving on to the next project. Meanwhile, the chickens are fully in follow-the-excavator mode, staying close as Philippe moves, sifts, and builds things up. And by the end of the week, my father comes to visit, which makes it the perfect moment to take all the junk we’ve collected to the tip. Year 1 here: • We Bought An Abandoned Farm in France - On... °°° Our Story: We're Philippe, Anicia and our little explorers are Odin & Gracie. In the summer of 2023, we left the comforts of our lives in Belgium and purchased an old farmhouse in the south of France, specifically in the Dordogne region. We produce weekly videos documenting our progress on the property, with the ultimate goal of renovating it and restoring it to its former glory. Join us on our journey of transforming this French homestead as we aim for a simpler, yet more fulfilling life closer to nature. #france #homestead #offgrid #farmhouse #movingtofrance #frenchcountryside #renovation #renovationproject #countryside #building #countrylife #restoration #slowlife #renovating #youngfamily #renovatinginfrance #restoration #slowliving #offgridliving #barn #barnrenovation #slowlife #hardwork #family #restoration #DIY #propertytour #building #bobcat #thwaites #cleaning #landscaping #trashtag #trash °°° MUSIC | We use epidemic sounds for our music: https://www.epidemicsound.com/music/f...
