Cathays = (pronounced "ku-tays") An area of Cardiff where most of the university students lived. 2. A tour = (in the context of sports teams) When a team travels somewhere to play their sport and have a holiday together. 3. To bump into (someone) = To see someone you know unexpectedly, or without having planned to. 4. A coach = A type of bus that is much bigger and designed for much longer journeys and trips. 5. Right before = Immediately before 6. To out someone = (informal) To reveal private, secret or sensitive information about someone. 7. To count towards = To count towards To contribute or to be included as a part of something. 8. To grow up (somewhere) = To live there during the most important years of your childhood and your teenage years. 9. A curriculum = The structure and organisation of subjects and courses that are studied in a school or course. 10. GCSEs = The exams you do at the end of secondary school in the UK. 11. Sixth Form = The two years between school and university in the UK. 12. IB (International Baccalaureate) = An internationally recognised full-time educational course that you can take after secondary school. 13. Wealthy (adj) = Having a lot of money, assets, resources and possessions. 14. To hang out = To spend time somewhere, often in order to socialise or relax. 15. Flashiness = Acting in a way that attracts attention through an expensive and luxurious lifestyle. 16. An americanism = A word, phrase or spelling rule from the United States, but that has been adopted in other varieties of English. 17. To head (somewhere) = To go somewhere or to go in the direction of somewhere. 18. Awful (adj) = Very bad. 19. Spatial (adj) = Relating to space, distance, size and the position of things. 20. Rounded person (adj) = Someone that has a wide range of skills, knowledge, interests and experiences. 21. Rough (adj) (of a job market) (informal) Difficult, harsh or unforgiving. 22. Tyre fitting = Replacing the black, rubber tyre on a vehicle's wheel with a new one. 23. Casualty = A person who has been injured in an accident. 24. Full-on (adj) = Intense, or requiring a lot of effort. 25. To do up (a house) = To repair, renovate or redecorate. 26. By the looks of it = From what it seems like. From what I can tell. From how it appears to be. 27. Horrendous = Extremely unpleasant, shocking, horrific or terrible. 28. Carpet = Thick material used for covering floors or stairs. 29. A spike strip = A small piece of material with pointed spikes, used to attach carpet to the floor. 30. To disintegrate = To break apart into small pieces, fragments or dust. 31. To be boarded up = When a window or door is completely covered with wooden boards or thick panels. 32. Half 7 = (informal) Half past 7 / 7:30. 33. On the dot = Exactly on that number or at that time. 34. Hardcore (adj) = Extreme, intense or uncompromising.
