Valmy Cemetery, Paris & Charenton-le-Pont, France. Valmy Cemetery is located in the Bercy district of the 12th arrondissement of Paris. It lies along Avenue de la Porte-de-Charenton, between the Porte de Charenton, the Bois de Vincennes, the railway lines, and the Boulevard Périphérique (Paris ring road). Although situated within the city of Paris, the cemetery belongs to and is managed by the municipality of Charenton-le-Pont, which also serves as its new municipal cemetery. The cemetery was created on the former site of the fortifications of Paris and was opened in 1906, near Bercy Cemetery, taking its name from the district of Valmy. Within the cemetery stands a memorial to those who died in Operation Dynamo in 1940, as well as to the gendarmes who died during the Ouvéa hostage crisis in 1988.
