More than Crucified, Mt 27:35-50, Steve Neumeyer Preaching, Transforming Word Center, Eldora, Iowa
As Pastor Neumeyer continues to explore the events of the last 72 hours of the earthly life of Christ more thoroughly, the teachings coming from the actual event of the Crucifixion are explored. When the Bible is recognized as a book of love, peace, and justice, the Crucifixion is something that can be upsetting at first. Jesus came to bring life, and they brought death. Jesus came to bring peace, and they brought trauma. Jesus came to bring healing, and they tore Him apart. Ahhh…. But all of this brings us back to the passage in Isaiah 53:5 and I Peter 2:24 where we learn that “By His stripes we were and are healed.” Ponder the thoughts in today’s passage… (1) In verse 35, we remember that where God had continually brought a covering upon His People, they saw fit to strip Christ naked. Yet for those that waited, the covering of the Holy Spirit is set in place. (2) In verse 36, we remember that when Christ suffered most, they played games and gambled. Yet for those who trust in Him, life becomes a certainty not a gamble. (3) In verse 37, the accusation ridiculed both Him and His race. But God sees through the accusations of men. (4) In verses 39-41, we see that the Cross was more than the pain of the flesh, they hurled insults and accusations at Him. Mental pain was present for Christ… and for His followers. (5) In verses 42 and 44, we see how they misquoted and outright lied about Him and His words. We should not be surprised when we experience the same. (6) Finally, in verses 45-47, it appeared that God Himself had turned His back on Jesus. But the quote brought more than realization that He felt alone, the end of the passage revealed a righteousness that would become available to all who would accept it Christ is Crucified, but so much more. Will you find that “more.” More than Crucified, Matthew 27:35-50 Steve Neumeyer Preaching ...an Assembly of God Outreach Transforming Word Center Eldora, Iowa [email protected]
