Lusitanos: Como Viriato Humilhou Roma — e o Preço que Pagou por Isso

In 150 BC, thirty thousand Lusitanians laid down their arms. They had the promise of a Roman general: fertile lands, peace, a future. The praetor Servius Sulpicius Galba ordered the massacre. Of the few who escaped, an unnamed shepherd would begin one of the most extraordinary resistances in ancient history. For eight years, Viriathus systematically defeated the generals Rome sent against him. Not by luck—by strategy. The tactic of concursare, knowledge of the terrain, the ability to build alliances between tribes that had never fought together. Rome lost Gaius Vetilius, Gaius Plautius, Claudius Unimanus, and others in territory that should have been conquered in months. The most extraordinary moment came when Viriathus cornered the consul Fabius Maximus Servilianus in a defile with twenty thousand men and, instead of destroying him, freed him. In return, he asked only for recognition—and the Roman Senate signed the treaty. His own senators called him dishonorable. Rome never accepted an enemy who refused its rules. What happened next defined not only Viriathus's fate, but how empires deal with those they cannot defeat. In this video: the massacre of Galba in 150 BC, the Lusitanian guerrilla warfare and the concursare tactic, the Roman defeats of 147-141 BC, the peace treaty of 140 BC and what it meant for Rome, the betrayal of Audax, Ditalcus and Minurus, the funeral of Viriathus according to Appian, and the legacy that Rome tried to erase but could not.
