I Started Trusting the Artist Instead.
012 / 365 This film is part of an ongoing body of work investigating how identity transforms through sustained creative inquiry. 365 is an archive of observations, questions, experiments, and discoveries by Christina DiStefano. Each entry serves as evidence of an unfolding research practice, documenting—in real time—the evolution of an artist. Rather than documenting finished ideas, each entry captures the movement of becoming—the slow transformation that unfolds after leaving a corporate identity and allowing the artist to return. It explores what happens when creative practice and professional practice are no longer separated, and what becomes possible when both are allowed to shape one another. It is an ongoing attempt to make the invisible a little more visible. ⸻ YOU CAN BUILD FROM TRUTH. Lately I’ve been trying to explain what this project actually is. On the surface, it probably looks like I’m posting a video every day. But the videos aren’t really the work. The work is learning to trust the artist. For years, I believed success came from following someone else’s model—working harder, optimizing more, finding the right strategy. Now I’m beginning to wonder if my greatest contribution comes from something much quieter. From paying attention. From noticing light. From questioning my own assumptions. From allowing ideas to emerge instead of forcing them. I used to think not having a business degree was a disadvantage. Now I see it differently. Maybe the artist was never standing in the way of the business. Maybe she was always the reason it could become something different. This project is an experiment. Can a body of truthful artistic inquiry exist inside a platform designed to reward performance, optimization, and monetization? I don’t know. But I know I want to find out. This isn’t really a film about YouTube. It’s about what happens when you stop building around fear, expectations, or formulas—and start building around truth instead. Thank you for witnessing this part of the work. — Christina Artist Research www.ChristinaDiStefanoArt.com Studio www.CD-DA.com Instagram @christinadistefanonyc
