The owner told us it wouldn't start with the start button and also had a number of problems with the main wiring harness. So, we started checking the scooter to see why it wouldn't start with the button. The first thing we found was that there was no power to the scooter in general. We decided to measure the battery's charge with a multimeter, and it only had 5V. This explains why there were no lights on the scooter. So, we brought in a test battery, and everything returned to normal. The scooter started with its own button, which I found strange since the owner reported that it wouldn't start with the button, and all we did was put in a new battery. So, I came to the conclusion that this scooter wasn't charging. When we performed some tests, they came back negative, indicating that the stator was shorted out. We opened up that area and discovered that someone had installed the stator backwards and left the wires crushed, creating a short circuit that burned out the charging coils. So we replaced the ring gear, and the motorcycle started charging again and would start with the electric start button every time.
