The time is finally upon us…this Thursday you will hear our last ever feature contribution. Our final contribution is an exclusive farewell mix crafted by critically acclaimed UK sound artist James Leyland Kirby. You may know him for his long running project The Caretaker and he also makes sound collage under the moniker V/VM. As The Caretaker, his music was initially inspired by the haunted ballroom scene in the 1980 Stanley Kubrick film The Shining, with many of his releases consisting of treated and manipulated samples of '30s ballroom pop recordings. The Caretaker is known for making haunting music that explores memory and the gradual deterioration of it, nostalgia, and melancholia. The Caretaker was a favourite of the late BBC Radio DJ John Peel and his staggering collection releases have also received critical acclaim. Long time listeners of our show will be very familiar with James Leyland Kirby, so we are thrilled to share his exclusive mix with you which features unreleased work, including never-before-heard sounds by The Caretaker. Up until this point the mix was largely thought to have been lost as the site that originally hosted the audio disappeared, however thanks to Ben's Fractals, they were able to snag the full program. This specific upload focuses on the final mix however I intend on uploading the full program on this side later this week for archival and documentation, so be on the lookout for it.
