Kisah Dorcas (Tabita) : Wanita Penuh Kasih Sayang yang Dibangkitkan Tuhan (Kis. 9: 35-43)

Today we will learn from the story of a woman whose name may not be mentioned often, but whose life left a remarkable mark on the history of the early church. That woman was Dorcas, or Tabitha in Aramaic, meaning "gazelle" or "gazelle," a symbol of gentleness and beauty. Dorcas's story is recorded in Acts 9:36–43. Although only a few verses long, her story contains profound lessons about love, service, generosity, faith, and the power of the Lord's resurrection. Dorcas was not an apostle. She was not a preacher. She was not a national leader. Yet, her name has been remembered for thousands of years because her life was filled with love for others. In the days of the early church, there was a bustling port city called Joppa. This city was a hub for traders from various regions. Its population was diverse. There were Jews, foreigners, fishermen, merchants, and even poor widows living in hardship. This was the city where Dorcas lived. She was not a wealthy and famous person. She was not a high official. Yet the whole town knew her as a generous woman. Every day of her life was filled with good deeds. She always sought out those in need. She didn't live for herself. She lived for God through serving others. The Bible bears beautiful witness to her. "Dorcas was always doing good and giving generously to others." It's a simple sentence. But it describes her entire life. Kindness wasn't something she did occasionally. It was her lifestyle. She didn't just talk about love. She practiced love every day. When she saw someone hungry, she gave them food. When she saw someone cold, she made clothes. When she saw a widow crying, she came to comfort them. Dorcas understood that love isn't just a feeling. Love is an action. She didn't serve for praise. She served because she loved God. One day, something unexpected happened. Dorcas fell ill. Perhaps it was just a fever at first. Perhaps her body was weakening. As the days went by, her condition worsened. Everyone prayed. Everyone hopes he recovers. But the disease got worse. Finally Dorcas died. The whole city was filled with sadness. It wasn't just his family who cried. The widows cried. Children cry. Poor people cry. They lost someone who had been their help. At the same time the Apostle Peter was in the city of Lida which is not far from Joppa. The disciples immediately sent two men to summon Peter. They said, "Come right away." Peter immediately went with them. When he arrived at the house, he saw an atmosphere full of sadness. The widows show the clothes Dorcas made. Everyone cries. Peter saw how precious this woman's life was. Prayer that Changes Circumstances Then Peter ordered everyone out of the room. He knelt down. He prayed. Peter knew that only God was able to perform miracles. After praying he said, "Tabitha, wake up." Truly extraordinary. Dorcas opened her eyes. She saw Peter. She sat down. Peter took her hand. He helped Dorcas up. Then he called everyone in. Imagine the joy that ensued. Tears turned to cheers. Sorrow turned to praise. God had raised Dorcas. Lessons from the Life of Dorcas Dorcas's story teaches that God rewards service done with love. Small acts done with a sincere heart can have a big impact. Dorcas was not known for her words, but for her actions. She demonstrated that true faith is always expressed through love for others. She also taught that every God-given ability can be used to serve. The needle and thread in Dorcas's hands became instruments to express God's love. Likewise, our talents, no matter how small, can be a blessing when offered to God. Furthermore, this story reminds us that God has power over life and death. When everyone thought hope was lost, God was still able to do the impossible. No situation was too difficult for Him. Lord Jesus bless...Amen.
