Invented in 1831 by Michael Faraday, transformers are devices that operate through current induction according to the principles of electromagnetism. That is, they function based on the electromagnetic principles of Faraday's Law of Induction (Faraday-Neumann-Lenz Law) and Lenz's Law, which state that it is possible to create an electric current in a circuit once it is subjected to a variable magnetic field. It is because of this need for variation in magnetic flux that transformers only work with alternating current. AUTOTRANSFORMER: In autotransformers, the primary and secondary windings are in contact with each other. The winding has at least three outputs where electrical connections are made. An autotransformer can be smaller, lighter, and cheaper than a standard double-winding transformer. However, the autotransformer does not provide electrical isolation. Autotransformers are often used as step-up or step-down transformers between voltages in the 110-117-120 volt range and voltages in the 220-230-240 volt range. For example, a 110 or 120V output from a 230V input allows equipment from 100 or 120V to be used in a 230V region. IMPORTANT NOTE: If using an isolated transformer, ensure a neutral reference on the secondary side by installing a ground conductor. Only then can you guarantee that the residual current device (RCD) or residual current circuit breaker (RCCB) will operate in case of a current leakage on the secondary side. Remember that in this case, RCCB and RCCB devices must be installed on the secondary side of this transformer. If using an autotransformer, perform a continuity test from the primary to the secondary side to confirm that the interconnection between the primary and secondary coils is guaranteed. In this case, the RCD or RCCB will act in case of electrical current leakage on the secondary side. For this case, RCD or RCCB devices can be installed on both the primary and secondary sides. 💡 Pay attention to #electricity 💡 __________________________________________________ 👇 Most Watched Videos: Three-Phase Motor Inside.
