Storing energy by using weights?  Gravity energy storage is not a new concept. We've been doing it with pumped hydro for more than a century. However, pumped hydro may not be suitable for locations with limited rainfall. Alternatively, there is actually another way to store energy by use of gravity, which is using massive weights.  With this method, energy is stored by raising and lowering extremely large and heavy weights up and down over huge height distances. When there is excess energy being generated, the weights are raised above and energy is stored in the form of gravitational potential energy. The weights are then lowered again to change the gravitational potential energy into kinetic energy that turns the mechanical motors to generate electricity.  In conclusion, the storing of energy using massive weights should be popularized in the human race’s bid to reduce the usage of lithium-ion batteries. Hopefully, this will contribute to a greener planet for the generations to come.
