T0303 (CARBON CAPTURE UTILISATION AND STORAGE TECHNOLOGY (CCUS)) CCUS is a vital technology in addressing climate change which only shows the signs of getting worse. The process involves capturing, transporting, storing and utilisation. Carbon dioxide produced by energy-intensive industries can be captured via Post-combustion, Pre-combustion or Oxyfuel combustion. Captured carbon dioxide is then compressed into liquid and transported by pipeline, ship or tanker to be stored underground or converted to alternative renewable sources of energy. For instance, in the early 1970s, some carbon dioxide captured from a gas processing facility in Texas (USA), was piped to a nearby oil field and injected to boost oil recovery. Despite concerning about high capturing cost and carbon dioxide leakage, this technology still shows high promise. Thus, research and development aims at reducing the cost of capturing carbon dioxide and reducing the risks of leakage by introducing Storage Security Calculator(SSC). In conclusion, CCUS is a vital transitional technology in reducing carbon dioxide emission while we are progressing to a truly low carbon economy. #nsc2021 #caring4nature
