In the early hours of May 23rd, 1986, a small team of firefighters found themselves battling a smoldering inferno in a highly radioactive area in the destroyed Unit 4. In their haste to locate the source of the smoke, one of them would fall through an open hatch, break his leg, and find himself trapped in total darkness - directly on the once molten remains of Chernobyl's Reactor Four.
