It is an ancient mountain road from Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County through the West Kunlun Mountains to Shache County. The Great Tang Records on the Western Regions records the experience of Master Xuanzang crossing the Tasha Ancient Road when he returned to the east: "He went down the east hills of the Pamirs, climbed the dangerous mountains and crossed the caves and valleys.
