Research has shown that once a driver initiates the act of deploying a handgun, they can shoot at us in less than a second, regardless of the side of the vehicle we stand on. This highlights the importance of honing our reaction time to ensure our safety. In a profession where split-second decisions matter, it's crucial to understand the factors that can impact our response time. Research suggests that most officers can take between .5 - 2.0 seconds to react upon observing a gun being directed at them. So, why does it take time for us to respond to an unanticipated attack? Consider the steps involved: 1. Observe and mentally process the presence of a gun. 2.
