They simply need to stay by the Shepherd's side and testify about the beautiful encounter with Him. Let us remember that today's story is a 'missionary discourse.' Some people think, 'Ah, so this is how missions are done!' However, others think, 'What about my heart? What about my life? He isn't taking care of me.' A life following Christ is not about seeking 'inner peace,' but about advancing toward a deep relationship with Jesus through proclamation and service—that is, through mission. It is not about becoming a confident and unwounded 'self.' It is not about becoming a 'sad protagonist' fighting against the judgment of others and loneliness. It is not about becoming an 'independent being' who does not depend on anyone. Faith is not about looking out for oneself, but a call to become a gift to the world. Jesus sends out 'unprepared disciples.' He desires that they learn and grow within the mission. Let us stop trying to learn and master things, and instead obey the words of the One who sends us. Only then will the meaning of prayer, sacraments, the Word, and service feel new and close. May our mission resemble the Blessed Mother's visit.
