More of our local villages as we travel from Ollerton to Historic Hodnet and the roads get better.
Ollerton, only a small village but during the 2nd world war quite an important place, in 1941 an airfield opened as RAF Ollerton, it was No. 21 Satellite landing ground, an emergency landing ground for RAF Ternhill near Market Drayton, and other RAF bases. More information can be found on google. Hodnet is loaded with history and was an Anglo-Saxon settlement which had a chapel, it is mentioned in the Domesday Book as Odenet, there was even a castle there which was burned down in 1223. For more information on Hodnet there is quite a lot of detail on Wikipedia.
