Abuse in the Catholic Church was for a long time a taboo subject, silenced by some within the institution. Due to the lack of response, the victims of abuse took the initiative and are demanding accountability. "For too long, abuse in the Church was denied, ignored, and silenced. The victims have the right to demand justice." In September 2018, Cardinal Reinhard Marx, President of the German Bishops' Conference, made these words and apologized to the victims of sexual abuse by priests in Germany. In this report, Matthias Katsch, one of the victims' representatives in Germany, argues that the Church's handling of abuse remains problematic even today. The former student of Canisius College and spokesperson for the victims' advocacy group "Eckiger Tisch" helped to uncover the abuse scandal in the Catholic Church in Germany in 2010. For more than thirty years, the crimes committed by Jesuits Peter R. and Wolfgang S. remained hidden. That is, until 2010, when the abuses at Canisius College were made public by Matthias Katsch and other schoolmates. And then? So far, it is only known that after 2010, both priests were seen in Chile. Because the investigation was stalled, Matthias Katsch decided to take matters into his own hands. He traveled to Chile and searched for the priests and other victims. And he found them.
