Seville's Cathedral, Royal Alcázar, and General Archive of the Indies have been recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites since 1987. We explore the art and history of this monumental enclave with painter and sculptor Ricardo Suárez, who illustrates the tour with his explanation of the Plaza del Triunfo, featuring a sculpture of the Immaculate Conception, the Cathedral, the General Archive of the Indies (also known as the Lonja), and the Royal Alcázar. He recalls the origin of the Casa de Contratación, the current building of the General Archive of the Indies, as a place where merchants could conduct their business outside the Cathedral.
