Episode 3: Rowardennan to Inverarnan (West Highland Way, 2024)

Started: Sept 1, 2024 in Milngavie, Scotland Finished: Sept 7, 2024 in Fort William, Scotland In this episode I took the "low road" from Rowardennan to Inverarnan. This trail follows along the shores of Loch Lomond for about 3.5 miles/5.6 km before it joins with the main trail. As beautiful as this section is, it is very rugged. The path has a lot of boulders, large tree roots, and a lot of ups and downs - which can be a mix of wooden steps, large boulders and just elevation gain and loss. If it rains you'll also need to mind your step because the path can get slippery. Being an avid outdoorsman I didn't find this section very difficult. If your new at this, and you plan to carry a fully kitted pack, it is doable. You just need to take your time and allow your self plenty of time to complete this section. Though it's only 3.5 miles it does feel longer. If you plan to camp along this route there are plenty of beautiful wild camping spots along the way. If your day hiking this section with just a day pack, then it is absolutely doable, again just give yourself enough time to complete it. I've never taken the "high road" as this is my first time hiking the WHW so I can't compare the two, but I can reassure that this route is absolutely worth it.
