Nutrisi pada Bayi Prematur (Part 1)

Dr. dr. Risma K. Kaban, Sp.A(K), during the webinar "Nutrition for Premature Babies," December 22, 2020. A baby is considered premature if it is born at less than 37 weeks of gestation. Although premature babies generally have a Low Birth Weight (LBW) weighing less than 2,500 grams, this does not necessarily mean that a baby with LBW is premature. LBW babies are born regardless of gestational age. Providing nutrition to premature babies requires patience, considering that at birth their organ systems are not yet fully developed. Premature babies often face a number of challenges in growing properly, unlike full-term babies. For example, they have higher nutritional needs, are more susceptible to disease, have higher protein requirements, have organs that are not yet fully functional, and have food allergies and intolerances. Even if breast milk production is sufficient, breastfeeding should be given in small amounts, slowly and gradually increasing the volume, because a premature baby's digestive system cannot yet digest large amounts at once. For parents of premature babies, it is important to understand the difference between chronological age and corrected age. This helps determine whether the baby's development is optimal. In this video, Dr. Risma Kaban, SpA(K) explains the differences between these ages and how to calculate the corrected age for premature babies. Dr. Risma also explains the target weight, length, and head circumference that premature babies must achieve to ensure optimal growth and development.
