Expedition Mystery Lake - Episode 02

No tracks. No guarantees. After a decade of missions, the Mystery Lake expedition continues. Experience the madness in full 3D - options in settings. Leaving Mistletoe Plateau behind, we continue deeper into the wilderness, navigating dense forest and scrubby drainage lines in search of the next spur. Our route leads toward the edge of an ancient glacial moraine, a sharp ridgeline buried beneath centuries of forest growth and scattered with enormous erratic boulders left behind by long-vanished glaciers. Following this line we pass these towering quartz rocks large enough to support mature trees, their roots spilling down moss-covered sides into the forest below. Beneath a canopy draped in sooty moss and accompanied by the calls of kākā overhead, we make steady progress toward our next waypoint, a cluster of these distinctive boulders we simply call Erratic Rocks. With the mission tracking well and the terrain beginning to reveal its secrets, we take a moment to rest, stash a pair of well-earned Red Bulls for the return journey, and prepare for the challenges that still lie ahead.
