Suzi tastes the 2018 Dr. Konstantin Frank Brut Méthode Champenoise and tours this renowned winery
Join me, Suzi Perez, wine lover and Vinmaps founder, as I explore Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery and their 2018 Brut Sparkling Wine. This is the 3rd and final wine tasting episode in our short series featuring United States based sparkling wines. Episode one of our series explored Treveri Cellars, an established Washington State sparkling wine house. In the 2nd episode we explored Sonoma wine country's renowned Piper Sonoma and their flagship Brut NV. Links to both videos are provided below. The historic vineyards of Keuka Lake and its wine trail are one of several famed areas within the large Finger Lakes AVA in West-Central, New York State. In the video Suzi explores the fascinating story of this 4th generation, world-class winery and tastes through the 2018 Brut. Founded in 1962, Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery was built upon Dr. Frank's knowledge of viticulture in cold climates. He and wife Eugenia arrived in New York in 1951 with their 3 children and very few possessions. They did, however, have grit, tenacity, and a strong desire to create a new life in New York State's now-famous Finger Lakes AVA. Just one example of Dr. Frank's ingenuity and pioneering spirit as both a scientist, winemaker, and vigneron, was how he tackled the issue of the soil pest phylloxera which would kill the European grape varieties. He began grafting the native, wild American grape vines (roots) to the European vines and this allowed the European vinifera to grow and thrive without the use of pesticides to kill the phylloxera. The winery was the first producer to craft traditional method sparkling wine with vinifera grapes in the Finger Lakes region and is one of the most respected wineries in New York State. The 2018 Brut is a classic sparkler sourcing from grape varieties typically used in Champagne, including: 55% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir, 5% Pinot Meunier Vineyard: 100% Keuka Estate Vinification: Whole cluster direct press Vessel: Stainless steel. Temperature controlled. Fermentation: Only cuvée press used. 2% Pinot Noir barrel fermented. Élevage: Méthode Champenoise. 30 Months Minimum. Dryness: Dry. 0.8% Residual Sugar.
