Piper Sonoma was founded in 1980 by the Marquis d'Aulan, whose family has been linked for generations with Champagne and premium wines within Europe. The Marquis d'Aulan family are direct descendants of the Piper family. Piper Sonoma crafts world-class sparkling wine, sourcing grapes solely from Sonoma County Appellation's vineyards. The winery has been committed to making high quality sparkling, in the Méthode Traditionnelle (a.k.a. Méthode Champenoise) for over 40 years now. The wines are produced in Healdsburg, CA. Fruit for their wines comes from numerous vineyards throughout Sonoma County and from more than 20 growers. Just as an example, Piper Sonoma has been working with families such as Greene, Young, and Ledbetter for over 30 years. Sonoma itself is about a 45-minute drive north of San Francisco, with much of its western edge situated along the cold ocean currents of the Pacific Ocean. Sonoma is full of a diversity in micro-climates, soils, elevations, and there are over 66 wine grape varieties grown here - spread across 19 American Viticultural Areas. Winemaker, Keith Hock has been working with Piper Sonoma for many years now and brings an illustrious, Sonoma-rich career into making reliably high-quality sparkling wines. The winery has focused for many years on 3 wines: Brut, Brut Rosé, and Blanc de Blancs while more recently have developed a following for their Brut Reserve as well.
