After crossing Mahe Bridge in Ladakh, I took a remote shortcut towards Tso Kar that bypasses Tanglang La and reconnects with the Manali-Leh Highway. What started as another peaceful ride across Ladakh’s vast high-altitude plains quickly turned into a battle against freezing rain and dropping temperatures. My winter gloves were packed deep inside my luggage. Stopping to unpack them in the middle of the storm would have soaked both me and my gear, so I kept riding. As the rain intensified, the cold slowly took over. Pulling the clutch, operating the front brake, and simply holding the handlebars became harder with every passing kilometre. By the end of the ride, the numbness became unbearable and I finally had to stop and warm my hands against the engine.
