Running in a Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Motorcycle

Just bought a new motorcycle? Here are some running-in tips that apply to the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, straight out to the owner's manual (August 2025 edition). 00:00 Running-in a Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 (by the manual) 00:23 Engine Warm-up for 120 Seconds 00:34 Change Gear Only While Moving 01:00 Rev Limit and Gear Use 01:24 Vary Your Speed 01:50 Highway Cruising 02:14 Correct Gears & Old 411 02:43 Don't Stop in Gear 03:04 Use Both Brakes 03:16 Summary 03:39 Updates to the Manual 04:26 After the First 500km 05:21 First Service For sources, see comments (I hit the character limit for a description). It could be more about just clearing out any initial metal shavings or other residue from first manufacture. Disclaimer: You do you. You will hear people say they didn't follow these guidelines and their bike is fine. It's your choice as to whether you follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding the running-in period of your bike. For me, most of these rules apply to the first 1,500km of the bike's use, and I'm hoping to keep this bike for at least 20,000km, if not 100,000km. That first 1,500km will fly by, and if I have problems later in the bike's life, I'd at least be reassured that they didn't occur because I was being too macho about following the manual. And also consider that if you have issues under the early warranty period, your local Royal Enfield mechanic is rightfully going to ask about your use of the bike during its running-in period. But, as they say, ride your own ride.
