Hidden History of Spitalfields' Streets | Pavement Roundels That Share Local History
Spitalfields is one of my favourite areas to guide, it's packed with human stories and rich history. So to tackle this huge topic, I've turned to a handy way to experience some of Spitalfields' stories. It's right there on the pavement! In 1995 Keith Bowler was commissioned to create 25 roundels to celebrate Spitalfields' hidden history. In this video I'm share the stories behind the remaining 13 roundels and how they tell us little details about Spitalfield's past residents, buildings and industries. We'll discover the different immigrant communities that have left their mark on Spitalfields, the major industries that have shaped this area and the famous residents form the past.
