The claims of the Bible fell apart until there was nothing left - Apostate Anne & Mark Peralta

Today I spoke with Apostate Anne and Mark Peralta, who grew up believing in Jesus and going into pastoral ministry, but ultimately deconverting as they examined the truth claims of Christianity. We discussed many topics, including: • Growing up hearing messages in church of women's subservient role to men. • Experiencing church elders ask them to lie to the entire church. • Apply critical skills to their worldview and beliefs. • Doing intense research about different Biblical topics and slowly realizing that apologetics perspectives consistently fell short. • Learning that for many Biblical figures, there is no evidence that they ever existed. • Watching a good friend die who had faith that god was going to heal him. • Explaining to their kids, whom they'd already indoctrinated into Christianity, that they had changed their beliefs and worldview. • Seeing how churches emotionally manipulate their congregations and prey on the weak. • The freedom, as a deconverted couple, to enjoy married life without patriarchy, as equals, and to delight in sexuality with more freedom and less guilt than ever. • How deconversion saves us from bad ideas as well as false expectations in life. • Raising children free from the concepts of original sin and admitting that kids naturally want to do good. • Seeing Christian loved ones become distant and disinterested after their deconversion, often either patronizing or ignoring those of us who have escaped Christianity.
