Dürnstein We start our tour in Dürnstein, a small town that seems straight out of a postcard. This village is famous for its ruined castle, where the legendary Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned during his return from the Crusades in the 12th century. Climbing up to the castle ruins is no easy task, but the views from the top are absolutely breathtaking. From there, you can see the Danube River winding through the valley and the vineyards covering the hills. Additionally, Dürnstein is known for its blue Baroque church, which is a true architectural landmark and a must-visit for any traveler. Stift Göttweig Next, we head to Stift Göttweig, a Benedictine monastery situated on a hill overlooking the Wachau valley. Founded in 1083, this monastery has been a spiritual and cultural center for nearly a thousand years. The Baroque architecture of Stift Göttweig is simply dazzling, with detailed frescoes, gilded altars, and an imposing facade.
