After leading the compact market for several years, Citroën has gone almost five years without a model in this segment. After testing the 2021 Citroën C4, we can say the wait has been worth it. The new C4 is a car that surprised us with its exceptional comfort, low fuel consumption, and spaciousness. Its off-road aesthetic is pleasing, and its raised seats make getting in and out very comfortable, but its center of gravity is not as disadvantaged, nor are its aerodynamics. The Citroën C4 test unit corresponds to a top-of-the-range unit, with the 130-hp 1.5-liter blueHDi diesel engine and the eight-speed EAT8 automatic transmission. It's surprisingly smooth and quiet, as well as its very low fuel consumption and ease of use. Compared to its rivals, the new Citroën C4 wins in ride comfort (there's no more comfortable car in its segment) and roominess, with spacious rear seats and a very usable 380-liter trunk. As for its negative aspects, its flaws are perfectly forgivable considering its virtues, but rear visibility is a pending issue due to the unusual shape of the rear window, split by the spoiler, and the lack of a rear wiper.
