William Morris and Liberty Textile Industry
An audio tape from the museum archive has been used with a number of pictures to bring you the story of the Textile Industry along the River Wandle. Its main focus is on William Morris and his works at Merton Abbey and Liberty of London who had print works at what is now Merton Abbey Mills. They were just two of the twenty plus works that were printing textiles along the Wandle Valley from the late 1700s. You can learn more about this industry by visiting the Wandle Industrial Museum in Mitcham, Surrey
