The average number of children born per woman during her reproductive years is now 2.6. Experts believe this is due to changing approaches to family formation. More and more young people are delaying the birth of their first child until a later age. According to demographers, similar processes are occurring in many countries around the world. NURZHAU KALIZHANOV, demographer: "We are currently experiencing a second demographic transition. Furthermore, our values ​​and norms are changing. This isn't just in Kazakhstan—it's happening practically everywhere in the world, and in our country, it's even happening with a slight delay." Reproductive specialists note that delaying childbirth until a later age is a common practice. However, the risks also increase. Therefore, it's important to plan your pregnancy and monitor your health. INDIRA ZHYLKYBAYEVA, fertility specialist: "There is no ideal age for pregnancy." Around the world, we focus on the health of expectant mothers, but we mustn't forget that after age 35, reproductive potential declines and the incidence of chronic diseases increases.
