The Salazar Palace in Santa Cruz de La Palma was the chosen venue for the official presentation of the 21st edition of the La Palma Film Festival. Speakers at the event included the President of the Island Council, council members, the councilor from the El Paso City Council, and the festival director, José Víctor Fuentes. During their remarks, they emphasized the consolidation of this film project as a true cultural benchmark in the Canary Islands. At the press conference, it was announced that the screenings and filming for this year's festival will take place between September 11th and 19th in the municipality of El Paso. This change of dates from its usual months was implemented exceptionally to optimize the management of public funding, following the resounding success of the recent children's film camp held in the island's capital. Among this year's main new features is the "Polar Star" award, which will pay tribute to the renowned actress Emma Suárez and the emerging producer Carmen Aguado. Furthermore, the festival director announced the creation of the "Canary Islands Film Awards" as a major milestone, a pioneering initiative designed to unite and recognize the talent within the film industry in the archipelago. Finally, both the organizers and the public institutions present reaffirmed their strong commitment to local filmmakers. They emphasized the importance of continuing to promote the audiovisual sector not only as a means of artistic expression, but also as an alternative and promising economic engine for the island of La Palma.
