Tartessos: Historia de la Primera Civilización de Occidente y su Misteriosa Desaparición

In this documentary, we explore the fascinating history of Tartessos, considered by many historians to be the first great civilization of Western Europe. Located in the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula, between the present-day provinces of Huelva, Seville, and Cádiz, Tartessos was a rich, advanced culture deeply connected to the trade of the ancient Mediterranean. Throughout the video, we analyze how this civilization emerged during the Late Bronze Age, its development thanks to trade with the Phoenicians, and how cultural exchange transformed the region into one of the most important economic centers of protohistoric Spain. We will discover how cities like Gadir (Cádiz), one of the oldest Phoenician colonies in the West, boosted the trade of metals such as silver, copper, and tin, sourced from the famous Iberian Pyrite Belt. These resources made Tartessos a key territory within the trade networks of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. We also analyze Tartessian culture: its advanced metallurgy, its filigree jewelry, its monumental architecture, the development of a still undeciphered Tartessian script, and its complex relationships with the Phoenicians and Greeks. Classical sources, such as Herodotus, even tell us of a powerful king: Argantonio, the most famous monarch of Tartessos. But Tartessos is also one of the great mysteries of ancient history. Why did this civilization disappear? What happened to its wealth and its cities? In the video, we explore the main theories about its mysterious disappearance: the decline of Phoenician trade, changes in tin routes, pressure from Celtic peoples, and internal political transformations. We also analyze extraordinary archaeological finds such as Cancho Roano and Casas del Turuñuelo, where palace-sanctuaries, ritual animal sacrifices, and deliberately buried buildings have been discovered. Thanks to modern archaeology, each new discovery brings us a little closer to understanding the legacy of Tartessos and its role in the emergence of later cultures such as the Turdetani and Turduli. The history of Tartessos remains one of the greatest enigmas of ancient Spanish and Mediterranean history. 🔻SUGGESTION🔻 You might find these videos related to this Chronicle interesting. ▶The Iberians🔻 Characteristics and Culture of These Pre-Roman Peoples    • Los ÍBEROS🔻características y cultura de es...   ▶Hannibal Barca: The Carthaginian General Who Challenged Rome    • ANÍBAL BARCA: el general cartaginés que de...   ▶The Celts in the Iberian Peninsula🔻 Between Myth and Reality🔻 The Celtic Legacy in Spain    • Los CELTAS en la península ibérica🔻 Entre ...   📜Bibliography ►Mariano Torres Ortiz - Tartessos ►Diego Ruiz Mata - Tartessos and the Tartessians ►Alberto Porlan Villaescusa - Tartessos: A New Paradigm ►Álvaro Fernández Flores and Araceli Rodríguez Azogue - Tartessos Unveiled The Phoenician Colonization of the Southwestern Iberian Peninsula and the Rise and Fall of Tartessos ►Fernández Jurado - Jesús.
