VARANDA cheia de plantas com JARDIM VERTICAL – #ALoucaDasPlantas ep. 4

The fourth episode of "A Louca das Plantas" (The Plant Madwoman), on the GNT channel, was especially for apartment dwellers. Balconies, terraces, or terraces are often the "backyard" of those who live in buildings, but our gardener Carol Costa knows that where a gourmet balcony fits, there's plenty of room for a spectacular garden. Of course, there are challenges to consider, and in this case, after a technical assessment, they discovered a plaster ceiling and a wall with plumbing that couldn't accommodate any holes, nails, or screws. Another detail: the team couldn't apply any paint or change the layout of the building's facade. Our crazy Piracicaba native rolled up her sleeves and created a vertical garden, many orchids, and even incredible floral arrangements. Two green panels were created: one was mounted on the only wall that could be drilled, and a grid was attached to it to support the plants. Nylon cable ties (or Hellerman tape) were used to secure the half-moon plastic pots. The other green wall was mounted on a metal shelf, with a wooden box for drainage. And here's a super clever trick: a dark drainage mat on the back of this structure creates a backdrop to highlight the plants and also eliminates the need for waterproofing the wall (no paint, remember?). Then, it was just a matter of choosing plants that like shade and heat: hanging species like snake plants and ferns, foliage like philodendron, Beleaf begonia, and Calathea orbifolia, as well as flowers like cyclamen and Phalaenopsis orchids. As a bonus, there was a plate of preserved or freeze-dried moss—not to be confused with dried or dehydrated moss. The moss used in the program lasts up to 10 years! The cherry on top of this episode were the floral arrangements that adorned the table and two others next to the TV, all created by Marcio Leme. The talented florist used pink alpinia, emperor's rod, scheflera seeds, mini Adam's rib and Calathea insignis leaves, chocolate cordyline, Echeveria, amaranth clusters, and many other species.
