As you can see behind me, white smoke is continuously seeping out from inside the building, though not in large quantities. With firefighting operations continuing through the night and rain, now exceeding 100 hours, the arduous battle against the flames continues at the site. The main flames were brought under control around 8 p.m. two days ago. This was approximately 61 hours after the fire started on the 6th floor of the logistics center. Currently, firefighters are focusing on clearing the remaining embers by entering the building through the central ramp and spraying water from the outside using high-rise ladder trucks. However, firefighters have not yet been able to enter the 6th floor, where the fire started, or the floors above. Fire authorities explained that they are reviewing entry timing from various angles, taking safety concerns into account, as residual heat and thick smoke still remain inside the building. Compared to the Coupang Deokpyeong Logistics Center fire five years ago, which took approximately 130 hours to extinguish, this fire, which covers an area more than twice as large, is expected to take a longer time to completely put out. Meanwhile, it has been reported that the flames were so intense that they melted the fire shutters that were activated at the time of the fire. Fire authorities stated in a written briefing, "Due to the large volume of combustible materials stored inside the logistics center, the fire shutters melted under high fire load and intense radiant heat," adding, "As the fire compartments were neutralized, we faced serious difficulties in preventing the spread of combustion."
