Nearly 200 newer jets will receive full Super Sukhoi upgrades including Virupaksha AESA radar, AI cockpits and advanced EW systems. Meanwhile, 70 older Sukhois are being converted into dedicated long-range missile carriers armed with BrahMos-A, upcoming BrahMos-NG and CATS Hunter cruise missiles with 1000 km range. Instead of costly upgrades on ageing airframes, these jets will focus on stand-off strikes, launching precision weapons from safe distances. This approach mirrors the US B-52 strategy and frees up HAL resources for Tejas Mk2 and AMCA. These missile trucks will play a key role in future Indo-Pacific conflicts alongside drones.
