Kensington Aldridge Academy (KAA2) - The Fastest School Ever Built

When Kensington Aldridge Academy closed following the tragic events on Wednesday 14 June 2017, the Education Skills and Funding Agency (ESFA) approached international consultancy and construction business Mace and modular experts Portakabin to provide a new building for its pupils. Time was of the essence and with term starting again on Monday 18 September, a traditionally built structure wasn’t going to be able to fit within the tight deadlines. Weeks after the purpose-built, brand new school on Silchester Road was closed, the new Kensington Aldridge Academy (KAA2) on Scrubs Lane, just over a mile away from the school’s permanent location, opened its doors to nearly 1,000 students. Now known as the fastest school ever built, KAA2 was an unprecedented project from start to finish; taking just 12 weeks from appointment to occupation and a record-breaking nine weeks to build.
