The Shocking Dangers of Extreme Flying | Red Arrows

The documentary follows the world-famous Red Arrows display team since the autumn of 2017, which began filming as a new team leader joined the Red Arrows ahead of their 2018 displays. Through unprecedented access showing behind-the-scenes, we learn it’s been a tumultuous year for the squadron, during which it was told its home at RAF Scampton would close and be sold off. Now the team is preparing for its "biggest tour for a generation", with the team's newest pilot, Flt Lt Jon Bond, believing it’s a fantastic opportunity to display the “best of British overseas." In this episode, the pilots are not only perfecting their aerobatics, they’re also preparing to deal with emergencies by using flight simulators to mimic what to do when there are engine fires. We also see the tragic events unfold surrounding the death of an engineer when a Red Arrow crashed to the ground - a stark reminder of the extreme risks all pilots and engineers face.
