We start our Route 66 journey in Topock, Arizona. As we drive toward Oatman, the landscape seemed to stretch on forever. We were surrounded by rugged desert mountains and an endless open space. Truly embracing the saying open road. The beauty of this stretch of Route 66 isn't found in roadside attractions or busy towns. It's found in the wide-open spaces, the desert scenery, and the peaceful stillness all around you. In fact, the quiet was so remarkable that we couldn't help but pull over for a few minutes just to take it all in. Sometimes the best part of a road trip isn't reaching the next destination—it's simply stopping and appreciating where you are. We start our Route 66 adventures in Topock, and unbelievably scenic drive to the iconic town of Oatman. The silence is just breathtaking. So much so that we just have to pull off on the side of the road and take it all in. Not another soul in site! Jason and pull off on a turnout, get out of the Jeep and just listen...... Silence. Absolute silence... It's incredible! Our first official stop on our Route 66 Adventure is the adorable town of Oatman with a true old Wild, Wild West feel complete with resident burros. I have a feeling this will be the highlight of my day! 🫏 🫏 🫏 Yup. 😜 I'm certainly in my dream - surrounded by cactus and burros 🌵🫏 🌵🫏 🌵🫏 🌵 I can't imagine anything better. 🥰 I notice one of the female burros' belly is moving, and upon a closer observation, I feel a baby burro inside that belly! One of the local shops has a plant your own cactus 🌵 that I simply must partake in! I'll figure out how to pack it in my bag for the trip home later. 😜 I'm not ready to leave Oatman, but we must keep on adventuring across Arizona's Route 66! This next section is absolutely stunning! The curves, the turns, the desert landscape - just incredible!! We arrive in Seligman just as the sun is setting so we miss operating hours of the diner where I wanted a chocolate malt, but the extra time spent in Oatman was well worth it! We end up eating Roadkill for dinner and find the historic Route 66 Canyon Lodge Motel to rest up for a Big Day tomorrow..... the historic experience continues as I get my handwritten paper receipt and keys to unlock our motel room. 🔑 I felt like Canyon Lodge Motel did a great job having clean and modern amenities while keeping with the historic ambiance complete with an actual key 🔑 and hand written receipt. 🧾 #arizona #route66 #route66roadtrip #roadtrip #historicroute66 Music from #Uppbeat https://uppbeat.io/t/arnito/o License code: LOGYCBEKF0CIT27J https://uppbeat.io/t/reakt-music/road... During the 1920s and 1930s, the Model T accounted for nearly half of all automobile sales, making it the definitive vehicle of early Route 66 road trips. A half-Mohave prospector named Ben Taddock located what became the Vivian Mine in 1902, about a quarter mile from present-day Oatman. In fact, the settlement was originally known as Vivian helping spark the mining boom that would eventually give rise to Oatman.
