​The HAUNTING of Oakwood Hall: We Entered Britain's Most Sinister, Filthy Hammer Horror Mansion

Step inside Oakwood Hall—the massive, abandoned Victorian estate in Irlams o'th' Height, Salford. Locally nicknamed "TeaPot Hall" after its eccentric tea merchant founder, Thomas Binyon, this sprawling structure has a fascinating past: from a grand residence to nurses' accommodation and finally, the Oakwood nursing home. ​But today, its majestic history is overshadowed by an oppressive, terrifying atmosphere. This location has seen more than just decay; during its time as nurses' quarters, the Hall was used to house children during the war and was tragically hit by an incendiary bomb, forcing the children to be taken up to the nearby moors to hide out. This was easily the most intense, unsettling, and filthy urban exploration we've ever done. ​Walking through the empty halls, you could literally hear the echoes and ghosts of the past, like House on Haunted Hill. Every room was a descent into decay; one particular part of the mansion was so rotten and filthy it genuinely felt like the building itself had died. ​Inside, we encountered: ​A palpable "not being alone" feeling—which culminated in a startling, unexplained moment when something touched my neck. ​The worst pigeon infestation imaginable: inches-thick bird guano covering every surface, plus live and dead birds everywhere. ​Live telecom equipment on the ascent to the tower that almost fried us. ​The basement, which was a chamber of horrors with living mold growing on the walls. The only thing missing was the sewing machine and death's-head moths. ​This location had it all: danger, disgust, and undeniable paranormal activity.
