PSHA primer: A brief introduction
This video is part of a highly condensed introduction to probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA), based on the book “Seismic Hazard and Risk Analysis” by Jack Baker, Brendon Bradley, and Peter Stafford (Cambridge University Press, 2021). See http://www.pshabook.com for a discount to purchase the book, code demonstrating seismic hazard calculations, and more. This video provides a short introduction of why we need to perform calculations to quantify the exceedance rate of rare large-amplitude ground motions. A simple calculation is performed to illustrate the basic seismic hazard analysis concept and motivate the need for seismic source models and ground motion models.
