Öl – und doch kein Ende? | Peak Oil, Erdölkrise & die abiogene Öl-Theorie (Dokumentation, 2010)

Is the world running out of oil – or has the global oil shortage been misjudged for decades? This 2010 documentary examines the debate surrounding "peak oil," geopolitical dependencies, resource crises, and the question of how long oil could actually be available. Many predictions from that time were later qualified by new extraction technologies, fracking, and changing markets. Nevertheless, the fundamental questions remain relevant today. A key focus of the film is the so-called abiogenic theory of petroleum. This hypothesis posits that some petroleum did not originate solely from dead organic matter, but could be formed deep within the Earth under certain conditions through geological processes. The theory is primarily associated with Russian researchers and some Western scientists, such as Vladimir G. Kutcherov. It contrasts with the currently dominant fossil theory of petroleum formation, according to which petroleum was formed predominantly from biological material over millions of years. The abiogenic theory is scientifically controversial and is not accepted by the majority of geologists as an explanation for global oil reserves. The documentary therefore presents both proponents and critics of this hypothesis. Among those featured are: • Energy analyst Fadel Gheit • Geopolitical analyst F. William Engdahl • IEA Director Nobuo Tanaka • Vladimir G. Kutcherov (Russian-Swedish researcher who has published on the abiogenic theory of oil at KTH Stockholm and is one of the more prominent modern proponents of this hypothesis) • Geochemist Jürgen Rullkötter Chapters: ▷ 00:50 – The Super Elephants: The World's Giant Oil Fields ▷ 01:44 – Energy analyst Fadel Gheit on the oil market ▷ 03:47 – Economic analyst F.
