WonterRail - North Norfolk Railway: Visiting Engines Arriving via Sheringham Crossing June 11th 2026

The time we were here was also in the week leading up to the North Norfolk Railway's 'Rails & Ales' Gala weekend. This is basically the railways take on the Diesel Gala and Beer Festival that happens back at Swanage Railway. Now sadly, we would be leaving Sheringham on the day the event began, so I unfortunately don't have a video lined up for you from the event directly... …however, I did manage something to capture that was related to that event. You see, the visiting engines for this event, would be arriving on the Thursday, the day prior to the event and despite this not happening until the evening hours, I wanted to make sure that we were around to capture these engines as they arrived, especially as it would involve them going over the crossing the connects the two stations in Sheringham together, which outside of this moment, doesn't get that much, so this was a very rare moment to witness. In total, three engines would arrive within a hour block in two different batches. The first loco would a Colas Class 37, specifically 37175. These engines have appeared quite a few times on the channel in the past, as they're the locos that operated the UTU Test Trains back home and used operated in the PLPR Test Trains as well, before they go taken over by the GB Railfreight Class 73/9's that operate the service today. The other two engines would arrive together and were far more noteworthy. This consist of Class 52 'Western' D1015 'Western Champion' and Class 50 50050 'Fearless'. The later I've seen many years ago at the Yeovil Railway Centre and is now and mainline operating engine under Locomotive Services Limited, the service company that operates the Statesman Railtours back home. The former is an engine I've had memories of seeing at Swanage many, many years ago and has been eluding me as of late, as this engine attended the Swanage Diesel Gala back in 2024, but I didn't get to see it due to being around Swanage on that day and being at the other end of the line as a result of the chaos on the day we visited (not to mention by the time it got back to Swanage, we'd already gone home for the day) and was also due to operate a railtour down to Weymouth on that same year, but it was cancelled due to scheduling problems, so far to say, I was long overdue to see this engine again, which I was quite lucky to do so here. I'm so glad that I got to see this moment when it happen. As much as it was disappointing to miss out on the event that followed, I feel like this more than made up for it and fair to say, it was a pretty fitting grand finale to our whole time up here, before we travelled back to Dorchester the following day.
